Week of Sept 13-17, 2015 Hike
Baxter State Park Mt Katahdin and Travelers Peaks Strenuous
Baxter State Park is a wilderness area. It should have peak foliage
this week. I am planning 3 days hiking in the vicinity of Mt Katahdin doing the
Knife edge, and two days hiking to the north on the Travelers peaks. The park
road is dirt with a 20 MPH limit. Accommodations will be in lean-tos or tents.
You will need to bring a winter sleeping & ensolite pad and light weight
food like dehydrated meals for two dinners. Along with three days heavier
food/toilet paper/soap that can be kept in a car trunk. The group will have water filters, two extra
6 person tents and three stoves. If you have your own tent, water filter or
stove please let me know when you register. Maine does not allow me to book
camp sites until May 17th. So I do not now know the sequence of the trip, where
we will be staying if tent or lean to or the exact cost. May 1st 2015 is the deadline for
registration. If you want me to book a site for you send me a check for $45 by
May 1st. Camping is $15 a day. We will share sites when possible. It will be
difficult to get out of the park and resupply. Think about how to bring everything
you will need except water (all water needs to be treated) for 5 days.
